The costs of truck and trailer crime
can never be anything more than an estimate; uninsured
losses, the loss of a vehicle and or goods, hiring
a replacement vehicle etc, when you start to add it
up, you simply cannot afford to become a victim.
To add insult to injury, many thieves will return
to a vehicle they have previous stolen, or stolen from,
expecting a fresh replacement truck or new goods, in
the safe knowledge that there is still inadequate security.
Many trucks now come with a Thatcham approved engine
immobiliser, but few are alarmed and alarmed trailers
are even fewer. Upgrading an Original Equipment immobiliser
with an alarm is simple and relatively inexpensive.
Most can even protect the driver whilst sleeping or
resting.
Protecting a trailer is also straightforward, with
systems available that even come with their own power
supply, which provide a constant 24v supply for up
to 14 days.
Trailer security often utilises wireless technology,
which enables the interior sensor, typically an Infra
Red PIR, to be fitted without running cables everywhere,
which can snag and also be bypassed by a professional
thief.
Wireless magnetic contact/reed switches can also be
used on doors and an optional text messaging system
can be added which will notify the owner if the trailer
is attacked and even if the alarms battery system drops
below 10.5v.
In an attempt to reduce the theft of trucks and trailers
and their goods, GAP Security, the UK’s leading nationwide
mobile vehicle security installer, has produced a comprehensive
and cost effective range of products for HGV, Trailer
and LCV applications, each with Thatcham approval and
a promise to pay the fleet managers or owner/operators
theft excess if a thief beats the system!
